@  KT/GT : (10 July 2017 - 10:29 AM)

I'm going to use Motul motor oil for my track use and was looking for suggestions on the oil filter to use. Best I can find is guys are saying to stick with the Ford OEM filter. Any suggestions?

@  KT/GT : (10 July 2017 - 10:28 AM)

I figured out how to disable to default valves in the pipes so the car's exhaust can be in track/sport mode all the time. With the car running and the exhaust in track mode (valves open) just unplug the wire connection at the rear of the car right by the exhaust tips. The valves must be open when you do this as the wires disconnected keeps it in whatever position they are in when you disconnect them. When you start the car it shows you a warning that the exhaust mode is not available but it goes off in 2 to 3 seconds and you do not have to hit "ok" to get rid of it. Much easier than changing it to track/sport mode each time.

@  smokum : (10 July 2017 - 10:08 AM)

Million dollar question ..... I would read the posts under oil consumption and you will get a better idea.

@  pguile131 : (09 July 2017 - 08:11 PM)

What is normal oil consumption

@  JohnCappola : (08 July 2017 - 10:05 AM)

I am new to this forum and would like to learn more about the 2016 Shelby GT-350.

@  KT/GT : (03 July 2017 - 06:08 PM)

I also will be using this car on the track and I have been told to disable the air bags as they have been activating on the rumble strips. Is this as simple as taking out a fuse?

A guy at work totaled his new Z06 Corvette and his insurance told him this- "Liability arising from the sponsoring or taking part in any organized or agreed-upon racing or speed contest or demonstration in which your insured car has active participation, or in practice or preparation for any such contest."

Basically, your regular insurance will not cover you thus need special race insurance and it isn't cheap! Even attending high performance school isn't covered by my insurance company. I feel for my co-worker since he out of about $100K now...

I dont know of any regular auto insurance that will cover track time at a race track. Your correct that there are insures that specialize in this type of

insurance. Have no idea how either !!

Exactly ...... I would never race my GT350 at Sebring without the additional insurance. This is a track that I know well and have raced alot when I had a dedicated track car

My insurance agent told that even I had an instructor in my car during the HPDE training that they wouldn't insure me or him/her for that matter.  And he mention that possible upgrades to cars can cause them to cancel an policy...

hadnt thought of that ...... I betcha that alot of these modded GT500's sporting HP in the range i did and more ..... if they lost control because of the power and the adjuster could connect the dots ..... you might have a problem with your claim ..... good catch wag !!

Not a surprise ..... u wreck your car at a drag strip or a road course its all on you. What he did is flat insurance fraud.

My question has anyone done the track insurance and if so ... how much was it approximately and I assume you wreck ... they cover the repair or if its totalled pay for the car.

The on track insurers usually have an agreed upon value for the car and have a 10% deductible. It is expensive (350-550 per event) but cheap is you total your car. A friend of mine wrecked his Camaro at an event but found it was cheaper to fix it out of pocket. Wasn't totaled though. Just a control arm, strut, tire and side airbags and sensors.

Im checking into it. Hope to get a quote from a company and share with the group.

Ya racing with my dedicated track car all I have to worry about is the event cost ..... usually around $400 but now with that car sold

and there is now way I would run my GT350 with out proper track insurance you can double that.

Plus the helmet I have the snell rating is expired though the helmet is brand new there is another $200-$400 dollars I have to spend

$$ CHING CHING $$

Ok I called the insurance broker that was listed above and spoke in length to one of their underwriters.

The premium is based on your declared value of your GT350 so I gave her $55000 as a number

Using this number, a event premium would be $334.60 for a 1,2 or 3 day event. The premium only covers collision of the car no

personal injury protection( I'll get to the PIP in a second). The premium comes with a  10% deductible so if you total your car your payout is

$5500 less and if you damage it your deductible is $5500. There is no inbetweens or addtional premiums that I was able to find to waive the deductible.

You can also on a yearly bases set up PIP insurance so that if your injured or more importantly ground crew or a occupant( ie instructor ) gets hurt the PIP kicks in

up to a 1,000,000. Its a yearly thing and goes from march to march of the following year. For 2 events per year the premium for this is $250

More events equal's more money for the premium. Think she told me up to 5 events is around $450-$500.

The agent advised me that as far as she knows they are the only agency that offers the PIP.

Hopes this gives a better insight

I recently sold my 2016 Golf R that I have taken to the track a dozen times. I bought insurance the first 2 times than I stopped. I realized that, at least with the club that I usually race with, there's little danger of getting into an accident. The high-intermediate group that I'm in doesn't have a lot of traffic and I personally don't push the car in a way that I could total it unless something extreme happens. Also, all the tracks around my area are out in the desert. Meaning, if you lose control and you go off track you can basically drive in a straight line for 20 miles before you hit something, most likely a bush.

I'm not sure this will change once I get my GT350R given that it's worth multiple Golf Rs. On a side note, I got collectors insurance for my Shelby and the policy clearly states that you are not covered only if you are competing or practicing for a competition. This is exactly what it says. It doesn't mention non-competitive, non-timed track days. This means that most likely it will cover my car in case of accident during a track day.

Thats the problem is what is "pushing"  a car

I had a dedicate track car years past and drove it at Mid-Ohio, Hallett, Road Altanta and my home course in Florida, Sebring Int Speedway

I think as you get more comfortable with the car you and I would start to push the envelope and how far do you push before the car pushes back?

For me .... I will prob do the insurance. On my dedicated track car that I use to own .... didnt care if i wrecked it  !
